FreeCell deals all 52 cards face-up and gives you four open cells to park single cards in — and because nothing is hidden, it's the solitaire of pure skill. Almost every deal can be solved with the right sequence, so each game is a puzzle with an answer rather than a gamble. Free, installs nothing, with undo and hints. A natural next step once Klondike stops surprising you.
How to play FreeCell solitaire
Eight columns are dealt face-up. Above them sit four free cells (each holds one card) and four foundations that build up by suit from Ace to King. In the tableau you build down in alternating colours, one card at a time; the number you can move at once is (free cells + 1) × 2^(empty columns). Any card can drop into an open cell and come back later. Send every card home to win.
FreeCell strategy & tips
Treat your free cells as scarce parking — a board with all four full is often about to stall. Because you can see everything, plan several moves ahead and free the Aces and twos early. Guard empty columns jealously: each one roughly doubles how large a run you can shift. When a deal resists, lean on Undo — nearly every FreeCell game has a way through.
